9/07/2010: Oxford wrapped up victory on the final day of the Varsity match to triumph by an innings and 28 runs. Cambridge were dismissed for 340 in their second innings, spinners Sam Agarwal (Queen's) and Alex Scott (Keble) taking 5-78 and 4-95 respectively.
8/07/2010: Day three of the Varsity match saw Cambridge being asked to follow on by Oxford, having been dismissed for 243 in their first innings. Vice captain Dan Pascoe (Lincoln) finished with figured of 5-38 from 30 economical overs. In their second innings, Cambridge closed the day on 227-2, still 141 runs away from making Oxford bar again. The Blues will hope to take the remaining 8 wickets on day four to achieve victory.
7/07/2010: The Blues enjoyed another successful day on day two of the Varsity match. Resuming on their overnight 475-2, Sharma and Neil Kruger (Green Templeton) took their partnership to 114 before Kruger was caught for 48. Captain Raj Sharma (Mansfield) came and went before Nick Meadows (St. John's) added a quickfire 38. His dismissal heralded the Oxford declaration on a mammoth 611-5, an all time Varsity record. The Cambridge response started smoothly as the openers compiled a century opening partnership, but Alex Scott (Keble) led the Oxford fightback, taking 3 of the 4 wickets to fall in the final session, Cambridge finishing the day on 191-4.
6/07/2010: The Blues totally dominated the first day of the Varsity match in the Parks. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Sam Agarwal (Queen's) and Dan King (Merton) put on 259 for the first wicket, before Agarwal was dismissed for 117. However, a partnership of 149 for the second wicket between King, 189, and Avinash Sharma (Green Templeton), 124 not out, ensured that the Dark Blues will start day two completely in control on 475-2.
5/07/2010: The Blues slipped to a disappointing defeat in the One Day Varsity at Lords. Batting first, the Blues made 270, largely thanks to some explosive late hitting from Nick Meadows (St. John's) who top scored with 66. In reply, a tight start from the Oxford bowlers kept Cambridge well below the required run rate, but a century partnership between Ansari and Rosenberg, who exploited the fielding restrictions of the batting powerplay, set Cambridge up, and a quickfire unbeaten partnership of 68 for the 6th wicket saw the Tabs home by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
3/07/2010: Blues captain Raj Sharma has named the following 12 man squad for the One Day Varsity at Lords on Sunday 4th July. Raj Sharma (c), Sam Agarwal, Dan King (wk), Avinash Sharma, Nick Meadows, Neil Kruger, Dan Pascoe, Tom Bryan, Jon Lodwick, Brett Tully, Lewis Dingle, Nick Buchanan. Gates at Lords open at 10am, and the match starts at 11. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased on the day.
3/07/2010: The Blues slipped to defeat in their final warm up match before the Varsity fixtures against Cambridge, losing to the MCC by 6 wickets. Having declared on 326-4 in their first innings, Neil Kruger (Green Templeton) making 190 not out, the MCC reached 308 before declaring at tea on day 2. Some aggressive batting from Nick Meadows (St. John's) on day 3 who scored his own unbeaten century allowed captain Raj Sharma (Mansfield) to set the MCC 326 to win from 58 overs. The MCC managed to succesfully chase down the imposing target with 2 overs to spare.
24/06/2010: A mixed week for the Blues concluded with a nervy victory over Midlands C.C.C. in the Parks on Wednesday. Chasing 223, the Blues seemed well set following scores of 71 from captain Raj Sharma (Mansfield) and 89 from Nick Meadows (St. John's) before losing three wickets with the score on 220. Victory was eventually sealed with a no-ball. On Monday and Tuesday, the Blues played out a hard fought game with the Durham CCC academy. Chasing an imposing target of 380, the Blues were aided by a brilliant innings from Dan King (Merton) who scored 155 and a gritty 80 from Chris Stearn (Worcester). Unfortunately, the second new ball proved the end of Oxford's resistance, and Durham achieved victory within the final half hour of play.
5/06/2010: Oxford triumphed in the Charles Russell Twenty20 Varsity in the Parks yesterday, running out comfortable winners by 53 runs, to win the Armada Shield for the first time. Giving to O.U.C.C.
Oxford University Cricket Club is one of the most prestigious sporting clubs in the country. The First-Class facilities at the University Parks have been graced by some of the most famous cricketers of all time because it was traditionally used as a warm-up ground for touring sides. OUCC has also produced many ‘Blues’ who have gone on to represent their country such as Imran Khan, Douglas Jardine, and M.J.K Smith. We realise how lucky we are to have such superb facilities but they do not come without a cost. Furthermore, continual promotion in the inter-universities league has made the Blues join the premier league for the South of England, and transport to these away fixtures adds to the club expenses. Whilst the MCC supports the Academy, OUCC remains entirely separate and receives no direct funding and is reliant on player’s subscriptions and members contributions.
